University of Nicosia receives EU Diploma Supplement Label

University of Nicosia receives EU Diploma Supplement Label

In a ceremony which took place last year in Antwerp, Belgium, the European Commission honoured a number of higher education institutions from 17 European countries with the 2010 Diploma Supplement Label.

The University of Nicosia was among 54 other universities in Europe to receive the European Commission Diploma Supplement Label, in recognition of its efforts to provide every graduate a standardized document with their diploma, automatically and free of charge, describing the nature and content of their studies. In this way, the Diploma Supplement aims to make it easier for graduates to find jobs on the international labour market.

The University of Nicosia remains the only private university in Cyprus to receive the Diploma Supplement Label – among 106 European universities in total to hold this distinction.

The event was inaugurated by   Ms. Androulla Vassiliou, EU Commissioner for Education, Culture, Multilingualism and Youth, and by Mr. Pascal Smet, Flemish Minister of Education, Youth, Equal Opportunities and Brussels Affairs. The DS Label was received on behalf of the University by    Dr. Andreas Charalambous, Vice-President for Development and University Relations at the time.

University of Nicosia ‘shares what works’ as EFQM Member

The University of Nicosia has already started its Journey towards Excellence by participating in the EFQM’s Levels of Excellence scheme and achieving the ‘Committed to Excellence’ recognition in 2006 (as Intercollege, at the time). The University’s dual motto, “Students First” and “Excellence in Education”, have guided our actions towards the continuous improvement of student services and the enrichment of the learning experience.

As an EFQM Member since 2010, the University of Nicosia is committed to maintaining its position at the forefront of education, research and social service – in line with the enduring motto of the institution: “Excellence in Education”. To this end, we strongly believe that the Fundamental Concepts of Excellence are the underlying principles towards achieving Sustainable Excellence.

EFQM is a unique community of organizations working together to improve their capabilities in understanding and implementing what delivers high performance. The key to making this happen is the shared confidence among all EFQM members in the power of learning through the exchange of best practice. In essence, EFQM ‘shares what works’.

University of Nicosia receives Excellence Award in Educational Services

University of Nicosia receives Excellence Award in Educational Services

The University of Nicosia was distinguished with the ‘Excellence Award’ in the ‘Educational Services’ category during an official award ceremony of the Entrepreneurial Excellence Awards, organized by the Cyprus Employers and Industrialists Federation, under the auspices of the Ministry of Finance. The decision was based, in large part, on an island-wide random sample opinion survey of 800 citizens and 600 organizations / businesses.

Moreover, within the framework of the comparative evaluation process that had taken place, various organizations were recognized for excelling in specific indicators in each category. The University of Nicosia was awarded for its distinction in the ‘Breadth of New Products and Services’ indicator, reflective of the diversity and quality of the new programmes of study, as well as the training programmes, it had introduced last year.

It is worth noting that this is the first time the Cyprus Employers and Industrialists Federation has organized such awards.

The ceremony took place on Monday, 08 February 2010, at the Hilton Park Hotel, with the President of the Republic in attendance. The University was represented, among others, by Rector Michael Attalides and the President of the Council, Dr. Nicos Peristianis, who also accepted the awards.

This is an award shared by all faculty and staff at the University, the result of their focused efforts and collective hard work.

The University of Nicosia has followed last year’s achievement of being the only private university in Cyprus to be awarded with a Silver Medal in Business Ethics Excellence with an even greater success – the Business Ethics Excellence (BEE) Gold Medal.

Following an arduous application process, meticulous documentation and a thorough on-site assessment, the University was ultimately recognized with the highest distinction, which is awarded by the European Business Ethics Network (EBEN).

Each year, the Network awards only a limited number of Business Ethics Excellence (BEE) Medals, to organizations that have distinguished themselves in the realm of business ethics. This year, the University of Nicosia was among a select number of other organizations to receive a BEE Medal, in recognition of having demonstrated sound Corporate Governance and multifaceted Corporate Social Responsibility.

Following on from this, the University of Nicosia remains the only private university in Cyprus to hold the Gold Medal certification in Business Ethics Excellence.

An official awards ceremony will take place this coming September 2011, where Dr. Melpo Iacovidou, Internal Quality Assurance Auditor, will accept the Gold Bee on behalf of the University.
